What Once Was

The first thing I ever hung up in my room was a princess canopy over my bed. When we bought it my dad tried to teach me the value of money. "It costs $24.99" he said, but to this day I still don’t understand why it couldn’t just be $25. When the canopy ripped, we took it down. I tried to find another one but it had been discontinued.

Now when I walk into my room, the first thing I see is my bed. Above it are posters: a Yoshitomo Nara poster, a Van Gogh poster, the monthly LACMA poster… Posters that have covered at least 3 different colors of paint, but not quite covered up a splash of nail polish.

As I contemplated leaving my room for the first time in my life, I created a space using scraps of paper from my memorabilia storage: two Unif shoe boxes. It's strange to think that all the memorabilia of my life up to this point can fit into just two shoe boxes.

A 4x4 floor collage, 4x6 wall facing window, 6x6 collage of film photography and film negatives hung up with painters tape.
“What Once Was” was put together over the span of a month, with the help of Problem Library in San Francisco.
